Since I was finishing the hull to completion I realized that I needed to figure out how to tie my rails to the transom . I had left them extending past the stern till I figured what to do..and do some trim that is needed to hide the deck transom meeting areas
I made these seeming easy looking trim pieces for the stern .. I had not anticipated all the intersecting angles that meet at the transom -plank and rub rail  landings  and this job took at least 6 hours of labor to make and install these pieces.. If I had done this job before I installed the gunnels it would have taken maybe a hour!
A picture of the trim installed .. I haven't cut off the excess plugs yet... I was happy with the result
I finished the paint on the hull and was initially happy with the results but as the sunshine shone brighter on the side I noticed a orange peel thing when you are up close
Real close photo that kind of magnifies the problem but I am looking into ways to resolve this or maybe I am being overly sensitive
After totally sanding down the third coat I re-did 2 more coats. I bought a good brush and tipped off after my roller and this worked fine
I can hardly wait to finally get my boat out of my shop so I can take a picture from a new angle...
I glued in the coaming- seat back
Before I could install the coaming at the back I needed to caulk the seems . I decided to use sika 291 I figured this is not a true deck and 291 was the right price . I also decided not to tape as taping would take forever and tape is also not cheap.. I caulked with a gun and flattened with a plastic putty knife. I sanded after it had cured ..Everything turned out great
Although not using tape saved time taping I think sanding took me longer then to tape.. I had not sanded the deck barely at all before I calked though so it is hard to say which way is better... either way it all turned out better then hoped and many many months of imagining what the boat would look like with a seamed deck finally became a reality
The ugly part at the bow is from faring down flat for the bow sprit
I finally glued in the coaming at the front . Tomorrow I will use a baton to draw my coaming height
I found this old picture of me and a friend hanging out... I had 4000 lbs of red urchins aboard when I hit this rock at high tide slack . We were in a super isolated part of northern British Columbia Canada... In-fact I remember this was pretty much un-charted area of west Aristable Island... The tide dropped another 15ft and the boat some how didn't fall off. We were able to get pulled off around 3 in the morning by a friend who hung out with us to help.... I Bad

MAP

I Took a break lately ... I am trying to figure out trim on the coaming ... I made so much kindling trying to bend wood to fit the curve that frustration lead to not much happening . I Finally made a piece of green cedar fit but cedar I think is the wrong wood for this ..I tried to use steamed mahogany but that was futile as the wood is kiln dried and just made expensive kindling..... I realize I won't be happy till I make a strong thick trim and I must go get some bending oak and steam that into position......

I have done a bunch of varnishing ... I did one coat on the upper deck boarder .. I have a few touch-ups to do on the seams before I varnish the rest......
